Amona Teresa

the history

A home with history

Amona (grandmother in basque language) Teresa is the representation of what grandmother Teresa was, a vigorous, corpulent and determined self-made woman. Her hands reflected the efforts of a woman, mother, fishmonger, fishmonger and hotelier.

When her fisherman husband, Don Cecilio, arrived in port with a boatload of fish, Amona Teresa took charge of selling the merchandise. He did it in a small fish stall located at number 16 Embeltrán Street in the Old Part of San Sebastian.

She completed her duties by tending to the 6 children they had in common, mending the fishing nets of the boats, and giving shelter in her house to the guest who requested it, generally school teachers, trade workers, new visitors to the city and merchants.

This lodging, inspired by old trades of the city such as fisherman, winemaker, iron worker, printing worker, cloth merchant, carpenter or basket maker, is a tribute to the efforts of Amona Teresa.
